Delay or cancellation with Vueling? Your rights at a glance:

  • You are entitled to compensation of between £220 and £520.
  • The compensation is not calculated according to the price of the ticket, but according to the distance of the flight.
  • You can claim it up to 6 years after the date of the flight.
  • These conditions apply to flights delayed by 3 hours or more on arrival.
  • In the event of a strike, Vueling is not obliged to pay compensation to its passengers as it is an extraordinary circumstance.
  • For flights canceled due to extraordinary circumstances, Vueling must offer to refund the affected tickets.

Our advice in the event of a delay or cancellation with Vueling:

  • Check with Vueling; ask for the reason for the delay.
  • Keep your travel documents: ID, boarding passes, photos, the delay certificate, tickets…
  • Keep the flight details from Vueling.
  • If the delay is 2 hours or more, you have the right to receive snacks and basic services from the airline operating your flight. Request these directly from the staff on site.

Vueling flight cancellations: What conditions must be met to receive a refund?

According to the UK Passenger Rights Regulation, if a flight is canceled and the airline is not responsible for the cancellation, passengers are not entitled to compensation. However, they can request a replacement flight, a new booking or a refund of the flight ticket from the airline.

Vueling may also offer a voucher as a refund. However, you are not obliged to accept this and can request a refund of the ticket price from Vueling instead. Please note that the refund must include the ticket price for the canceled flight as well as additional costs such as seat reservations and baggage.

When can you receive compensation for a canceled or delayed Vueling flight?

If the flight arrives at its final destination more than three hours late, the UK regulation on air passenger rights stipulates that you are entitled to compensation. The amount of compensation depends solely on the distance of the flight and not on the price of the ticket and can be claimed up to 6 years after the flight. However, there are some criteria that you should bear in mind. For example, the flight must take off or land in the European Union; in the latter case, the airline must also be based in the EU.

It does not matter whether you took the flight as a business trip or as part of a package tour, the compensation will always be paid to the person who suffered the inconvenience of the flight. Vouchers for meals or hotel accommodation do not remove Vueling’s responsibility to pay you compensation. However, Vueling is liable for flight disruptions and exceptional circumstances such as strikes or bad weather relieve the airline of its responsibility.

What compensation are you entitled to?

According to UK261 Regulation on air passenger rights, you are entitled to compensation if your flight is delayed by more than three hours on arrival at your final destination. The price of your ticket is irrelevant, as only the flight distance is decisive for the amount of compensation. It also does not matter whether you were travelling for business reasons or whether it was an organized trip. It is the person taking the flight who must be compensated.

In addition, compensation can be claimed for any flight that took place no more than 6 years ago. However, there is one last precondition. The aircraft must take off or land within the European Union. In the latter case, the airline operating the flight must have its headquarters in Europe. To file a complaint with Vueling, the airline must be responsible for the incident. It is not obliged to pay compensation in the event of “extraordinary circumstances” such as a strike or bad weather.

Here is an overview of the compensation to which you are entitled, depending on the cause of the delay or cancellation:

  • Delayed and canceled short-haul flights – less than 1 500 km – passengers are entitled to compensation of £220 from Vueling.
  • Canceled or delayed medium-haul flights – between 1,500 km and 3,500 km – passengers are entitled to compensation of £350 from Vueling.
  • Canceled or delayed long-haul flights – over 3,500 km – passengers are entitled to compensation of £520 from Vueling.
