Charlotte Douglas International Airport Delays

Located in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Charlotte Douglas International Airport is one of the collaborative civil-military, public airports in the United States. Established in the year 1935, the airport was called Charlotte Municipal Airport in the beginning. In the year 1954, the name of the airport was changed to Douglas International Airport, in honour of the former Mayor, Ben Ebert Douglas Sr., who was the mayor of Charlotte from 1935 to 1941.The Charlotte Douglas International Airport has a separate public area for visitors to view the runways during flight takeoff and landing, considered to be one of the best airport views in the United States. As sources claim, the decade from the 1950s to the 1960s saw the foray of jet aircrafts into the airport. The Boeing 720 was a significant jet service that began in 1962, and the decade from the late 1960s to the late 1970 saw a significant amount of infrastructural expansion in the airport. From the 1970s to the late 1980s, the airport found itself being established as one of the major hubs in the country. Airlines currently operating for the airport include American Airlines, US Airways JetBlue and Lufthansa.

Delays and other Inconveniences

Current international flight statistics indicate that the Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the ‘11th busiest international airport’ in the United States, with over 38 million passengers and 10 different airline services operating out of the terminal. Unfortunately for passengers, the airport has been witnessing a series of delays in the recent past, with the traffic management attributing a number of these delays to ‘miles-in-trail.’ Delays are often a cause for concern to many flight passengers, since they can affect the overall traffic to and from the airport.
